The Herbicides

The Swamp Watch Action Team (SWAT) is a non-profit grassroots environmental organization formed early in 2000 as a community response to wetland abuse by the pulpwood industry in Brunswick County, North Carolina.

We have pushed for investigations by the Army Corps of Engineers, EPA, and the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) into the environmental wrongdoing in the Green Swamp and have requested water testing (from NC) for those communities threatened by forestry herbicide abuse. Several investigations are underway at this time and more are scheduled. SWAT continues to press for an end to the use of aerialy sprayed herbicides.

SWAT will gratefully accept any donations toward our cause of wetland preservation. Please send your tax deductible check or money order to:

About Our Title
The name of our web site, Silent Death - - - Wetland Genocide in the South, was the only choice for those of us that have seen the current Green Swamp. Unlike other environmental disasters, our wetlands and wildlife are literally dying a silent death - (out-of-sight and out-of-mind).

The wildlife has not been afforded the publicity of floating - deceased and belly-up through a metropolitan city or gazing pitifully from behind the confines of the local animal shelter. The majority of our endangered plants and animals are gone from this planet - posibbly forever, we don't know. We do know that the only way to save our wetlands, wildlife, groundwater and perhaps our very lives is to act now.

Please bookmark our site . . . we will update as information becomes available.
