SILENT DEATH ~ Wetland Genocide In The South ~ The Green Swamp

The Swamp Watch Action Team (SWAT)is dedicated to restoring and protecting the forested wetlands of the Southeastern United States. We take seriously the claims of citizens who believe that their personal freedoms have been violated by industry, development, or even other individuals blinded by their pursuit of private gains.

If we as citizens look beyond the media reports, self awarded gold medals, and the seemingly glowing attributes of the pulpwood industry as the standard bearer for good environmental stewardship, we will find a picture they don't want us to see.

The urgency of this soul-less corporation to install locked gates at all side roads into the Green Swamp combined with reports of surveillance cameras in secluded forestry owned swampland certainly gives the impression that there IS something to hide back there!

In 1999 a Brunswick County hunter (outraged at the Green Swamp wildlife genocide) was instrumental in creating public awareness of possible wetland violations on lands owned by our nations largest timber company. Local television crews and members of the press were frequent visitors to the former wetland. Letters to the editor flew fast and furious.

The 2001 hunting land leases were re-written to forbid public discussion (by hunters) of environmental violations on these lands. The intent of the pulpwood industry was to silence the voices of our local hunters - but in many instances just the opposite has happened. Many hunters have chosen the high road and continue reporting through an underground of "green hunters".
